Daily Drawing of EPIC!!! and things.
The magical disappearing Karin strikes again!
I have a good reason this time, really! My sister (and I) had a bit of a meltdown on Wednesday night about her book, and then again on Sunday night due to something I'd said about the first few chapters of the new version. (Long story. -_-;) So! I made it up to her by reading the whole thing (which btw made me realize I don't know WTH I was going on about, even though it was kind of a minor thing I mentioned O_o;), and it is EVEN MORE AWESOME, and I've been working on giving her detailed comments chapter by chapter because she demands (and deserves) something more than "It's good/I like it" (which is all she's been getting from people as of yet :P).
So! There will still be some of that going on, but feel free to poke me for any reason.
In other news, I FINALLY FINISHED THE$% SKATING PICTURE!!! :D

So, these are my *babies*! :D Okay, they're my sister's babies, but I love them so much they kind of feel like mine too. ♥ (Sign of really good book, amirite?) But yes, this is all the Knights in one picture (*faints*)! From left to right: Abigail (Mars), Becky (Venus), Frederick (Mercury), Nick (Jupiter), Julian (Neptune), Captain Abrams (Uranus), and Mr. Wilmington (Saturn).
The book is set in the Victorian era, so it just begged for ice skating, didn't it? ^.^ I had this idea months ago, and worked on it very sporadically until I realized a few nights ago that all I had left to do was the background. I dragged my feet on that, with good reason, because as you can see it's not the greatest—I suck at backgrounds. ^^; But it works, and I'm happy with it overall.
The point is the characters, really. Because this, to me, depicts pretty well what I love about each of them—I was rather surprised I was able to come up with a satisfactory pose for everybody. And are they just not the happiest little rainbow of people you've ever seen? XD I just have to blurb about each one of them, a bit:
Abigail is such a fun main character—I went on about her at length here. She's an even stronger character in the new version, I think. Being the Knight with Fire powers, she's not a huge fan of the cold, hence the blanket. XD
Becky is the best! ♥ She's short and plump as a partridge but she's described as being the most beautiful woman Abigail has ever seen. Don't we need more characters like that, who aren't the typical tall-and-skinny-and-gorgeous? :P Anyway, Becky's adorable and sort of uncouth but also motherly in a way, and she and Abigail become fast friends. I totally stole her outfit here from a drawing I saw, lol.
I think you all know what I love about Frederick by now. :3 My sister says that something about the way I drew him here gave her an even clearer picture of him in her head. He's so whimsical. I imagine he'd feel really in-his-element ice skating, with the wind flying through his hair. He has a need for speed, hee.
Nick. NICK! I love Nick. Everyone loves Nick (who's read the story). My sister's original vision of him was kind of generic—just your typical Dickensian orphan sort of character—but he just turned out sooo much better than that. I imagine the poor guy doesn't know how to skate, which is why Fred was able to push him over as he whizzed past. Bad Fred!
Poor Julian, always having to clean up Frederick's messes. :P Julian's such an interesting and complicated character; there's so much I don't even know about him, and what's going on in his head. Unrelatedly, I have a soft spot for his color scheme—all teals and dark blues. I kind of want to steal that turquoise scarf; it's like, my favorite part of the picture. XD
Actually, what made me decide that I actually had to draw this whole thing was the initial sketch I did of the Captain and Mr. Wilmington. I ship them, I'm sorry. Mr. Wilmington practically follows her around like a big puppy, if mostly very subtly. And she sort of takes him for granted in some ways, but you can tell she's really fond of him, even if she tries not to show it too much. But hey, she's in a good mood on snowy days, so it works here, right?
Mr. Wilmington is arguably perhaps the most lovable character in the story. He's the first Knight to show up, and he's always smiling and very polite and carries a brass-topped cane everywhere. Also, he's an over-six-foot-tall bookworm, how fun is that? XD And Captain Abrams is still just a bad@$$ who pwns everyone despite having lost her dominant arm.
So anyways. I love them. Does it show enough, you think? ^_^; Hope you like the picture! Certainly took me long enough, lol.
In other other news, I might have a half day today. SWEET!

This is beautiful and I love the colors and the motion. Oh and I adore the sort of moment happening with the Captain and Isaac, there's clearly so much going on below the surface with them.

I'm still trying to prod my sister into doing a post with me in Mixed Muses. There should be a few weeks where she's not busy sometime in the near future (next few months), after she's started sending things out to possible agents. If I'm able to convince her, we've already decided to EP Augusta and Isaac together.
P.S. You will be the first to know. ;D

Also in fun news, I got a 20 dollar online gift card thanks to doing a pretty easy Twitter study that I'm thinking about what to buy.
I meant to do my grocery shopping but I think I'll do that tomorrow. I just got home and logged on so I'm pingable.

I also love that you ship characters in your sister's book! ♥

As you can imagine, this picture has a LOT of layers. So I had to merge some of them until I had the characters and all the coloring without the background onto one layer. Then I copied all of it, and then un-merged the layers again by pressing "Undo."
After that, I flipped the layer vertically and matched each character's reflection to where their feet were (I had to do it seperately because they're on slightly different planes; Becky and Abigail especially). Then I played with the opacity of the layers and blurring and things. I ended up with two layers, one with a vertical motion blur and both with the bottom faded out. (To do that, I made another layer with a half-transparent gradient, with the opaque part covering what I wanted to erase. Then I selected the gradient layer's transparency and cut it out of the reflection layer(s).)
