Yeah, like that'll happen. :3
I have just discovered how difficult creating an OC for the Star Trek universe can be. There is simply too much canon and apocrypha. (I've determined that I really must watch DS9 and Voyager, but that's kind of unrelated; mostly, looking through articles on Memory Alpha has convinced me that those series must be amusing.)
See, I wanted to stick my OC on the U.S.S. Titan, because it made sense to me that Riker would think she might be a useful addition to his crew. And so I went to the ST wiki simply to see what class starship the Titan was (to which there is no clear answer, btw), and ended up clicking through a ton of links.
Cut to me buying the first three books of the currently-7-book series entitled, Star Trek: Titan.
I would simply ignore choose to ignore it-- as most Star Trek fans do not consider novels to be "canon" works, and often ignore them-- except for the fact that they look so interesting. Apparently the second officer is Tuvok, a Vulcan from the Voyager series that I know absolutely nothing about but really want to, now that I've scanned his page on the wiki. And it sounds like he could be OH so useful in terms of how I'm planning on developing my OC... But I digress.
Interestingly, the crew matches the (very) few little details I'd already started to concoct in my head-- the first officer is female, the second is male, and the head science officer is not Vulcan (Bajoran, in this case). And hey, guess what? Former-Ensign-now-LIEUTENANT Sariel Rager is on board! Not to mention Nurse Alyssa Ogawa, who was on TNG in the 6th and 7th seasons I think? Really, it's highly unlikely that so many canon characters would end up on the same ship with only a complement of 350 people, isn't it? But it just makes it so much more interesting!
So, in summary, I'll have new reading material. Which is nice, because it's been so long since I've forced myself to read anything... at all. XD
It'll take 1-3 weeks to ship, though, which is a bummer, but oh well. In the meantime, I've been drawing icons for Julia.
