ICON MEME

♥ Fun little icon meme I'm stealing from [livejournal.com profile] ceitfianna:

Comment here and I'll pick 5 of your icons for you to write about.

These are the five she picked for me…

I made this icon sort of on a whim for use in Mixed Muses, because I thought the flame was pretty. I'm still meaning to post the original picture as a Daily Drawing, but here's the wallpaper my sister made from it that I subsequently used to make this icon. It was originally based on a fanfic she was writing, but then I realized it worked better with some of my original characters—Damian and Alexander. I only had to change one of my character designs accordingly, which I'd been meaning to do anyway because Damian seriously looked too much like Ciel Phantomhive, even though I created him before Kuroshitsuji was published. More on all that can be found in my deviantART gallery.

This is from a movie version of one of my favorite Japanese short stories ever, by an author named Tanizaki Jun'ichirou. The story was titled "Shisei" (Tattoo) and I first read it in the original Japanese for class. It's about a sadomasochistic artist who tattooed a giant jorougumo (a type of spider) onto a woman's back, which somehow transformed her into the cruel kind of woman he fantasized about. Yeah, I don't know either, but it was by far the most interesting story we read that semester—Tanizaki was a weird guy.

This is Haruka Tenou (Sailor Uranus) playing the piano, from the manga version of Sailor Moon. I've always adored this picture ever since I first saw it in junior high, and copied it more than once while teaching myself how to draw. The text is lyrics from Michael W. Smith's "Do You Dream of Me?" which has a lot of pretty piano, and remains one of my favorite songs of all time (I can actually play part of it!). And I was really into Sailor Moon when I first heard it, so I will always imagine Haruka singing it to Michiru (Sailor Neptune) whenever I listen to it.

This is from my FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME, Amadeus. The priest who talks to Salieri as he's telling his story is so amazingly well-cast, I laugh nearly every time he's on screen, just because it's so obvious on his face how traumatized he is by what he's hearing. The quote is stolen from Will & Grace, from (who else?) Karen Walker. This icon is incredibly useful when directed at myself. XD

I drew this one myself! Back from when I dyed my hair black and cut it in a semi-bob. I like picturing myself as a little black sleepy kitty, not sure why. I did one of these for each of my roommates last year—including TL!—and we put them on our doors. I'm sleeping on top of my Japanese homework; the kanji reads "neko," which of course means "cat."
