Daily Drawings! #1

You guys are sweethearts! Three people responded to this post and told me to go ahead and post more drawings. So I'm going to! I've been going through some of my folders on my laptop, and I realize that if nothing else, a lot of these make excellent prompts for journal entries. Hopefully no one will feel spammed! >.<
I'm guessing these things will be anything but daily. XD Probably more like bi-weekly or something, but that doesn't sound as snappy.
First let me start by saying that I have a lot of stuff already posted on my deviantART page. Quite a few Twilight-, Ouran HSHC-, Prince of Tennis-, and Fruits Basket-related drawings. I'm gonna try not to post stuff here that I've already posted there. I also have some things under the "drawings" tag on this journal, including some fun little TNG comics.
So! Without further ado…

One of my first fanarts (I think my first complete one, actually) for my sister's novel! You've all met Frederick, right? :3
The other person in the picture is Captain Abrams, who is all sorts of hotness. She KICKS ASS, actually. In fact, she may be one of THE most awesome characters I have ever read about in a story. She probably beats out even Frederick in terms of who's my favorite character. (Though I really can't decide on anyone—I have like, 5 favorite characters. XD)
And she's not just gratuitously awesome; she fits perfectly into the story and all of its main themes. She's a great parallel to the main character—she's everything the main character aspires to be, though she won't admit it. They don't get along at all, and it's really interesting to watch how their relationship starts to play out in the first book.
I don't want to spoil it much more than that. But there are several things which make Captain Abrams even more awesome. ;)
More about this picture: yes, Frederick can fly. It works out that it's more like levitation, actually, though Kat told me that if a Mercury astromancer got enough momentum going, they could probably zip around in the air pretty quickly, more like traditional flying. But I love the way she describes it—the only time Frederick flies in the actual story, it's described like he's climbing a staircase, which I totally wasn't expecting and I thought was really charming (and I totally stole the description for RP lol). The wavy, sparkly purple-ness at his feet is just for artsy fun. There's none of that in the actual story.
He and Captain Abrams have an interesting relationship. Meaning, he's a source of many of her headaches. He's more than 10 years her junior, and she's been his commanding officer since he became a Knight. And basically it's a source of amusement to him to try to weedle insults out of her. She's warmed up to him a bit over time, and now sometimes she insults him less out of annoyance and more out of indulgence. Not that she's happy with him all the time, though.
So that's it! Hope you liked. It's a really crappy doodle, I know… I spent, like, 30 min on it or something lame like that. Also, I suck at any sort of perspective. But. DOODLE. XD *waves arms to distract you from the crappiness*

Date: 2011-01-13 10:33 am (UTC)Hmm... line weight. Y'know I don't even really think about it much. Maybe that's why I like a lot of my sketches better than some of my finished work; the line weight tends to be more variable and natural. >.>
